Kalev Kalda Sikes

Intern and Undergraduate Student

I am an undergraduate computer science student at UOIT. My main area of interest lies in artificial intelligence, however, I am quite interested in all manner of computer science problems, including networks, security, user interface design, and quality assurance, as well as social problems, such as education, healthcare, and equality. I am on track to graduate from UOIT’s Co-op Computer Science Program in the spring of 2015.

I am currently working as an intern for SurfNet under Dr. Christopher Collins of UOIT and Dr. Mark Hancock of the University of Waterloo. My current work involves the maintenance and development of The Simple Multi-Touch Toolkit (SMT), a library for Processing aimed at making multi-touch interactions easier to use for the non-coder.

I have no public personal projects in development at this time. I do, however, have a private project in development. Its tentative first release is set for the summer of 2014. I am also in the process of conceiving and working through new project ideas, as well as planning the thesis of my final undergraduate year.

I am an advocate for GNU/Linux adoption in all areas of computing. I prefer Fedora for everyday use. It is a personal goal of mine to one day contribute to the Linux ecosystem in some way.
